About Peter H. Reynolds

Peter H. Reynolds (www.peterhreynolds.com) is a NY Times best-selling author and illustrator, creativity advocate, and founder of FableVision (www.fablevision.com), an award-winning educational multimedia development company co-located at the Boston Children's Museum, as well as FableVision Learning, a K12 educational media & technology publisher based in Dedham, MA. Reynolds’ goal is “to help children protect their creative spirit and give their parents, teachers, and caregivers the support and tools to bravely make their mark in learning, creative self-expression, and civic problem-solving.”

Reynolds has conceived and designed media for a wide variety of media platforms for broadcasters, museums, publishers, and educational organizations, including Sesame Workshop, National Academy of Sciences, Reading Is Fundamental, Scholastic, PBS, Carnegie Hall, and The Jim Henson Company. Peter regularly presents and keynotes around the globe, championing “off the path” learning and everyday creativity, and inspiring children and “grown up” children to lead successful and meaningful lives.

In 2007, Peter received an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from his undergraduate alma mater, Fitchburg State University, in recognition of his “substantial contributions to education and the arts.” He was named Verizon Literacy Champion for his “tireless efforts in promoting reading, writing and self-expression”, and also recently awarded the 2012 Champion of Arts Education Advocacy Award at the Massachusetts’ Statehouse for his “amazing work supporting & promoting arts education.” He recently received the Visionary Award from AAP Learning Group which celebrates the extraordinary accomplishments of the learning resource industry and the ongoing mission of helping every child receive a world class education.

Peter’s book The Dot was named as one of the top 15 “Greatest Books for Kids” of all time by Scholastic Parent & Child magazine - alongside Charlotte's Web by E.B. White and A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle. Published in over 20 languages, Peter's books - including The Dot, Ish, Sky Color, Rose's Garden, I'm Here, So Few of Me and The North Star - inspire children and “grown up children” with his messages about authentic learning, creativity, bravery, empathy, and courageous self-expression. Peter also illustrated the best-selling Someday by Alison McGhee, and the Judy Moody series by Megan McDonald, which has sold over 20 million copies worldwide.

Reynolds’ book Sky Color (Candlewick) is the third and final book in his “Crea-trilogy” series, which includes The Dot and Ish. To celebrate The Dot’s 10th anniversary, Candlewick Press has released a special The Dot: Make Your Mark! Kit, which includes a hardcover edition of The Dot, a set of watercolor pencils, and Reynolds’ personal favorite The Blank Book. As Reynolds notes, "My dream library would have loads of books and an equal number of blank books. A great big wall of 'empties' waiting to be filled. Blank books are symbols of what each of us is capable of creating, contributing, and sharing. They symbolize that each of us has an important story to tell, and that the best chapters are unwritten and just waiting to unfold."

Peter lives in Dedham, MA, where he founded The Blue Bunny, a family-owned and operated children’s book, toy, creativity store. Much of Peter's spare time is spent giving back to the community ~ revitalizing the businesses and landscape in his beloved Dedham Square, supporting schools, caring for homeless children, promoting literacy and learning, and inspiring all of us to use our gifts to make the journey a meaningful one. To that end, Peter and his twin brother Paul, recently launched the Reynolds Center for Teaching, Learning, and Creativity (TLC). The center is a not-for-profit organization that encourages creativity and innovation in teaching and learning. It is dedicated to ensuring that all learners develop the vision, confidence, knowledge and skills needed to move their own lives forward, and to use their talents, strengths and energy to move their communities and the world to a better place.

Paul A. Reynolds is celebrating the release of GOING PLACES, his first publishing collaboration with his identical twin brother, Peter H. GOING PLACES is based on an original, animated film called ABOVE & BEYOND, which was produced by FableVision with The Partnership for 21st Century Skills (http://www.p21.org), a national coalition of education and business leaders calling for the deliberate integration of 21st Century skills into education.

The Reynolds brothers have another children’s book due out this fall with Charlesbridge Publishing. FULL STEAM AHEAD! is the debut title in the SYDNEY & SIMON early reader chapter book series, which brings STEM education to early elementary students in a playful, story-based way. The series features twin mice Sydney and Simon, who are incessant creative problem-solvers who bring to life the STEAM approach to STEM education – combining Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Arts. The book series was based on an original multimedia partnership between FableVision, Reading Is Fundamental and the National Writing Project, which produced a portfolio of digital literacy tools to promote the four critical components of holistic literacy — talking, listening, reading and writing/creative self-expression.

Paul is the CEO and Co-Founder of Boston-based FableVision, which creates and distributes original educational media, mobile games and apps designed to move the world to a better place. Paul has been teaching media production at Boston College for over 20 years, and also serves on numerous community based committees in his hometown, Dedham, MA, where he lives with his three very creative boys Josh, Ben and Nate — and his wife Janet. Together, they manage the family’s award-winning children’s book and toy shop, The Blue Bunny Bookstore.
